I would like to go to a place where nobody knows me and see more of the world. I am not scared to be alone in the streets of Florence. The place I love most. When I arrived in the city, I just started walking. I walked about 10 miles in the 2 days I was there. I feet and legs were tired but my heart was not. My eyes were all over the place. If there is a place I would like to get lost in, it’s Florence. Not Venice nor Paris (it’s very dangerous).
My children understands my eccentric nature. They have a mother that raised them the best she can. It was very difficult specially with my natural desire for adventure. I stayed home and nurtured them until they can take care of themselves. One thing I don’t hide from my children – my feelings towards things I’m passionate about.
My husband understands my nature as well and takes me anywhere I want to go. Of course he loves travel as well. He takes me everywhere he say, “because I love the way your eyes light up when you’re in the top of the Duomo!” He adds, “I love following you around the streets of Paris and Venice, Barcelona (we walked to the nearest Post Office – with my limited Catalan), Milan, Sidney and all these other places we went and will go to.“
I’m the packer – I can pack a 10 day travel in a small suitcase! I am the navigator. I have always been. The secret is is to include Google Street view! I familiarize myself with the streets we are going to be walking and all its corners and shortcuts. It is a big help. And of course a very reliable mobile data!
I keep all the important papers and print everything! When you travel abroad it is very important to print everything, just in case… always have a plan B. You’re not in Kansas anymore. I organize it and color code it. When I’m done with a set, I put it in the “done folder”.
I wash. I wash undergarments in the hotel. That is another secret to packing light. Pick clothes that are light, and bring a thicker comfortable sweater to match.
To come back again, to my point. I do love having all these extra things in life. But all I want to do is to see the world. See the remnants of these great Dynasties and Kingdoms that made the world today what it is. Of course I cannot take away the death of millions in all those wars that happened, and all the plagues that swept these ancient cities but when I’m walking in them, I can somehow connect in a weird way on the lives they once lived.
